GreaseMonkey: don't know if I'm copying all what you want to say, though.... =) P.S. I already told about it to encore longer time ago, but he don't know what's the problem...
Guy.: you mean to use the UI from AdT2? I hardly believe it's usable for your purpose, as it is quite complex and poorly documented... I think better for you would be to start with something easier and maybe improve it further and further (as it was done for AdT2) - unfortunately I don't keep the old sourcecodes, these would be maybe useable GreaseMonkey, coder from New Zealand. 2010-02-01, 23:08:09
Ugh. I'm trying to make an A2M player for FreeBSD (I have a hacked sound driver which creates a /dev/ node for FM purposes) and this thing is a horribly complex beast and half the time I don't actually know what the hell I'm doing.
Just something I need to point out, and subz3ro, you might want to point this out too: A2M requires aPLib 0.26. Y'know when you're on the ibsen software website? Copy the "download aPLib 1.01" link, then scrub away everything after the last slash, and you should get a folder view.
P.S. The "Program FAQ" is blank. Guy., another visitor from USA. 2010-01-25, 08:30:21
Subzero-> In the future, I may try my hand at a little bit of DOS programming and would like to do an OPL3 music program that isn't tracker-like, but more experimental in interface.
If I ever (probably won't, but you never know) get around to it, would it be okay to use your audio source to build an interface on?
Thanks. Moogle!, listener from Eagleland. 2010-01-25, 05:10:26
Well, as you seem to have DOS, you should be able to type EDIT, which would bring up a crude text edtior. Find the .ini file for the tracker, and edit that. kid versus chemical, musician from USA. 2010-01-22, 23:58:24
Hello all,
I've been using AT2 on and off for a few years now. My Win 95 AT2 machine died, so I switched to a DOS Toshiba laptop, with a slower CPU (133mhz) Does anyone know how to edit the adtrack2.ini file inside DOS, so I can config it for slow cpu? I can't bounce the file to a windows machine because the floppy is messed up, so for now I can only work with files that are already on the machine. Thanks, AT2 is a great program. Whats up adlib tracker peeps ! Just posting a link to my newest album... All songs were made with Adlib Tracker II, and recorded from a Pro Audio Spectrum16 sound card... enjoy!!!

ok to answer my own question, it seems the YMF715E-S SA3 chip my laptop has prefers the OPL_Latency=1 setting.... working fine now

Hi there,
I got a laptop with a YMF715E OPL3 chip, yet the newer version of AT2 only outputs garbage when I play a module...
if I try with the old version, it detects the chip as OPL2 and then it works...
yet this chip is supposed to be an actual yamaha OPL3 chip... is this chip supposed to be compatible? do I need to tweak the config file somehow?
Thanks! subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. 2009-12-21, 11:23:22
Analog: dunno :-( however, try with the older version (2.3.35) of the tracker, which is here: http://strony.aster.pl/adlib/trackers.html Analog, musician from Chile. 2009-12-19, 09:08:15
thanks for your reply subz3ro. I've removed almost all programs from autoexec.bat and config.sys. For me isn't just ocassional, the program hangs in about one to five keypresses on note input. but the program is running just fine. the sample tunes work perfectly. what i'm doing wrong?. subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. 2009-12-15, 08:33:40
Analog: It's been reported from time to time, that such behavior occurs after some time of using tracker, but usually it was occasional. Don't you have any resident keyboard programs in the memory? (check autoexec.bat / config.sys) Analog, musician from Chile. 2009-12-15, 05:03:15
hey, i love this tracker! i got a problem, using a toshiba portege 620 ct. (16 mb ram, dos 7.1). the main issue is that the tracker plays just fine, but when I input some notes with the keyboard, it gets stucked. but this only happens when i try to make an input from the keyboard.
can you help?
thanks in advance, i'll try the older version to see if it works.

thesnake383: just a short reply to your questions.... I think it can be useful for somebody else, so I'll give you reply here, not to your email...
1) there is no special help for percussion instruments... the point with toggling the type from FM to percussion is to get suitable Instrument Editor GUI for them => you should experiment with percussion mode to get the results which fit your demand most 2) macro is advanced level of making FM - not really required for a real beginner :-) 3) you toggle 2OP/4OP channels in Song Variables (Ctrl+F -> 4-OP TRACK EXT.); if you select at least one 4OP channel, then in Instrument Editor you pair the 2 instrument that will sound in 4OP channel with Space key; more information on pairs (AM-AM, AM-FM, etc.) you can find in Help 4) there are following requirements for runtime of the tracker: available DOS memory block (when program is loaded) - 120kb available extended memory block (pmode) - 5MB+ In my opinion you have too less RAM onboard... thesnake383, newbie from America. 2009-10-18, 23:26:53
Newbie to Adtracker here.
I'm trying to create percussion sounds using the Shift + M B S T H keys, but to no avail. Help!
Also is the macro editor important for programming sounds? If so, how is it used?
Is there a way to switch between 2op and 4op sounds in the instrument editor?
I'm also trying to get Adtracker working on my old Windows 95 computer, but I get Error(1) Insufficient memory messages! (I sent subzero an email yesterday) Help! Tinctu, musician from Slovakia. 2009-08-31, 18:33:21
Hey PDF Format -> I think best will be buy old PC 400-600MHz with ISA motherboard and buy AWE32 or SB16 and run there MS-Dos. Well when you will prefer travelling there is lot of cheap notebooks out there. Some has only codecs. Few (mainly from Japan) real OPL3. But still good for tracking... Or use Danyls dosbox ADT2 distribution on modern notebook. MrWhiPpy, musician from UKCHINA. 2009-08-14, 19:01:47

okay so i'm trying to find the right computer on ebay to run adlib tracker along with some other stuff, basically i'm having trouble finding a laptop with an actual soundblaster card, but they all seem to just have "soundblaster compatible" soundcards (ie: ESS Maestro 2)
will these work with adlib, or would i have to also get a soundblaster card and replace what they come with? danyl, opl3-geek from germany. 2009-05-04, 14:25:28

I'm currently looking for an old laptop to start composing with atII on. I've come across many older ones that say "fm synthesis support" or "sound blaster pro" support. My question is, do these computers have an FM chip, or would using one of them be an emulation as well?
Thanks for the help,

oxyngenstar: I feel for you :) I planned to add support for MIDI at the time the tracker was yet intensive developed, but never really realized that plan (missing equipment, motivation / feedback from public, etc.) Bad luck, I don't have time to work on the code that much anymore...... BUT..... there is (even though it's still small) light in the dark, and that's Danyl with his enthusiasm, who is trying to port whole code to Win32, to make it more compatible with PC equipments nowadays. Hopefully, when he will succeed with that task, he will add support for MIDI as well :) oxygenstar, opl3-geek from USA. 2009-03-28, 04:40:17

For all those who encounter some problems running AdT2 in DosBox, here are my settings in dosbox.conf file which work just great... speaking of both sound quality and performance ;)
[cpu] # core -- CPU Core used in emulation: normal, simple, dynamic, auto. # auto switches from normal to dynamic if appropriate. # cycles -- Amount of instructions DOSBox tries to emulate each millisecond. # Setting this value too high results in sound dropouts and lags. # You can also let DOSBox guess the correct value by setting it to max. # The default setting (auto) switches to max if appropriate. # cycleup -- Amount of cycles to increase/decrease with keycombo. # cycledown Setting it lower than 100 will be a percentage.
core=dynamic cycles=30000 cycleup=500 cycledown=20
[mixer] # nosound -- Enable silent mode, sound is still emulated though. # rate -- Mixer sample rate, setting any devices higher than this will # probably lower their sound quality. # blocksize -- Mixer block size, larger blocks might help sound stuttering # but sound will also be more lagged. # prebuffer -- How many milliseconds of data to keep on top of the blocksize.
nosound=false rate=50000 blocksize=2048 prebuffer=10
[sblaster] # sbtype -- Type of sblaster to emulate:none,sb1,sb2,sbpro1,sbpro2,sb16. # sbbase, irq, dma, hdma -- The IO/IRQ/DMA/High DMA address of the soundblaster. # mixer -- Allow the soundblaster mixer to modify the DOSBox mixer. # oplmode -- Type of OPL emulation: auto,cms,opl2,dualopl2,opl3. # On auto the mode is determined by sblaster type. # All OPL modes are 'Adlib', except for CMS. # oplrate -- Sample rate of OPL music emulation.

Hi all, just wanted to check in and say hi. I don't use AT2 anymore, but certainly cherish the music I made on it back in 2004/05. I downloaded the winamp plugin and found that my songs sound a little different than they do when played in adlib tracker, but some of the other modules sound exactly the same. Just why there is a discrepancy. Thanks, and happy tracking!
