DaNyL: I just downloaded and hear Turrican tune.It sounds amazing!!! Like from real soundchip. I will send You some of my syndie tunes soon!I like It!!!

DaNyL, coder from Germany. Wednesday, 18th July 2007, 9:27

and regarding those ADT2 problems:
when it runs in windows but not in dos it's a problem of the so called "dos extender".
tmt pascal, the language ADT2 is written in, has the possibility of using either DOS32,PMODE or DOS4GW. Maybe a change of the extender will cure some problems. but the extender has to be selected before compiling the source afaik. so, subz3ro, how 'bout some builds with different extenders?

DaNyL, coder from Germany. Wednesday, 18th July 2007, 8:30

@vintaque: Sorry, but I don't have a Mac (yet) ^^
btw. synder preview 5 is out. With Turrican Title as demotune ^^

vintaque, opl3-geek from fi. Tuesday, 17th July 2007, 23:43

DaNyl: If you have too much time, would you like to make .DMG of DosBox w. AT2 for a Mac OSX?:D

HS: Please do tell us if/when/how you get AT2 running on your Tecra. Thumbs up for MS-DOS 6.22....
I just hate the bootup-time on 98.

nim: Tecra 520 has one USB-slot on it, my Lacie USB-HD works fine on it (Win98SE) but my USB2.0-pendrive won't -except with "Motto hairu" -driver for DOS:O

DaNyL, coder from Germany. Monday, 16th July 2007, 8:57

Okay. I uploaded a new build of the ADT2-DOSBOX-WAVwriter package. If anybody has better adtrack2.ini settings, please contact me (addy@homepage). also synder preview 3 is out.

if it has a usb slot running winme isn't bad at all if you apply that unhide dos patch.
generic usb device support (every device I plug in seems to work) as opposed to <=98 :)
I've find no reason to run 98 on mine...

HS, another visitor from US. Sunday, 15th July 2007, 19:01

Oh, and it's got windows95 instead of 98. :)

HS, opl3-geek from US. Sunday, 15th July 2007, 18:57

@ Vintaque -> The exact same one you got...520CDT. It came with some kind of docking device, too, for extra stuff since the dock has more IDA slots and such. I don't know what I'd do with those, though...but it was an all or nothing deal. :)

vintaque, opl3-geek from fi. Sunday, 15th July 2007, 18:49

Weird thing: Adlibtracker hangs up on dos-mode but not when windows is on :D I just have to deal with long boot-up times...

HS: what model did you get?

HS, musician from US. Sunday, 15th July 2007, 17:01

@ Vintaque -> I just bought one myself after you said it just needs a DOS-able windows...finally...opl3...a REAL one...

Vintaque, opl3-geek from Suomi-Finland. Saturday, 14th July 2007, 17:38

YES!! Finally Alibtracker 2.3.35 is working on a Toshiba Tecra 520DCT!

All it needed was Windows 98SE... at least it runs under the windows, haven't tried dos-mode yet.
I tried all the craziest tricks I could imagine in the editor but it doesn't crash, it doesn't hang up -it doesn't bring me down:)

HS, another visitor from US. Saturday, 14th July 2007, 15:50

About the newest at2 being broken in dosbox, I was playing around with the config for the older version and discovered that some of the ini settings will result in the same...i'm still trying to pick apart which setting(s) cause it...

vintaque, opl3-geek from fi. Saturday, 14th July 2007, 2:02

HS: try 4-operator instruments for finetuning the carrier

HS, another visitor from US. Friday, 13th July 2007, 13:06

Subzero -> So then, it is only possible to get 'phased' oscillators at base octaves and 7th's only? What I mean is, I could set the modulator to not be 'keytracked', then reset it to different octaves or 7ths, then finetune the carrier to be out of tune with the modulator? Is there no way for the OPL3 to independantly set the modulator's fine tuning at all? I'd really like to see this, because it really does create very interesting effects quite easily. On PSPSeq's FM synth, you can hear this easily since both oscillators are independantly set in their 'base note'. You can get some really gritty sounds, which is what I'm after (i'm beginning work on an adlib DnB-type ep...).

Also, I noticed that (at least for linux) the newest version of Adlib is broken in DOSBox. Key inputs are not recognized. However, mouse input is (you can move the view, but cannot enter notes, see help, etc.). I hadn't realized a new version had been released when I started using it. Then I noticed the different version numbers and gave the new one a spin, only to find out this mess. If it works in real DOS, there's nothing wrong, but I thought maybe a heads up to people might be in order...

DaNyL, another visitor from Germany. Friday, 13th July 2007, 8:47

okay. first improvement-possibilites are discovered. for a quick fix: edit adtrack2.ini and change cpu_saving from 1 to 10. new installer will be availble by monday evening

DaNyL, coder from Germany. Friday, 13th July 2007, 8:00

for clay and other opl3less musicians: i put together an installer for a dosbox+adlibtracker combo; complete with a2t-wav-converter. get it at dawork.synchronus.de

subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Tuesday, 10th July 2007, 11:58

Clay: Adlib Tracker II is designed for soundcards with special soundchip. Probably you don't have it on your soundcard (surely not, if you have onboard sound). Please find the program called DOSBox on the internet and try to read some "how-to guides" to properly run DOS programs with it. Then you can try the tracker with this emulation environment and you will (hopefully) get some sound out of it ;-)

Clay, newbie from US. Tuesday, 10th July 2007, 2:11

I cant seem to hear my music, do i need a different type of sound card, or am i just missing something?
i dont have a special type, just the one it came with...

vintaque, opl3-geek from fi. Monday, 9th July 2007, 12:58

Some minor crashes still happens, especially Ctrl-key often stops responding, but I guess I can fix them. Newest version seems to be less stable on this hardware. I gotta try MS-DOS 6.22 instead of FreeDos etc.

subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Monday, 9th July 2007, 12:00

HS: fine-pitch does change the frequency for "note playing".. it is independent on type of FM operator. the only thing you can change FM operator-wise is volume slide. you can use INITIAL LOCK SETTINGS in Song Variables window to set the volume slide lock for Modulator part only (i.e. check mark will be in "M" column only) in corresponding channel. Also you can toggle this lock ON/OFF anytime in the song pattern with ZF6-ZF7-ZF8 commands. As the timing problems with DOSBox.. I think the new 0.70 version gives pretty good emulation for AdT2 when some real-time effects are "slowed" (let's say, cpu_saving=10) even on slower than C2D CPU's ;-) Anyway, it's good to hear that the Linux version is even better...

vintaque: hmm, pitty... hopefully this is not mandatory behavior of few recent AdT2 versions.. I didn't checked that, because last versions were developed/tested under DOSBox.. still, the 2.3.35 version has no problem with that for sure.

HS, another visitor from US. Monday, 9th July 2007, 4:32

Also, just a quick question...

Is there some way to independently set 'fine pitch' for the modulator instead of the whole sound? Putting a modulator slightly out of phase leads to huge sounds and interesting 'wobbles'...

HS, musician from US--erm...uh..... Monday, 9th July 2007, 4:23

I am in ecstasy...

The windows version of DOSBox had major issues with timing and screen updates with AT2...well, after a bonehead goof which restored my windows partition to factory settings, I've been hanging out in linux land...

Well, the DOSBox for linux handles AT2 flawlessly (with minor scrolling issues, but there's no latency and sounds good, with no slowdown even when outputting .wav files...

FINALLY...a (simulated) OPL3 is in my hands...

nim, musician from Sweden. Sunday, 8th July 2007, 22:37

cool so now you can finally make some cool tunes? :D
yeah, I can confirm simply having mmx processor doesn't crash adt2

vintaque, opl3-geek from fi. Sunday, 8th July 2007, 14:11

haha, it seems to be fixed by setting 8-bit and 16-bit recovery to maximum. No more opl_latency=1!!
That's probably bugging my tecra, but it doesn't have that option on its BIOS...

vintaque, opl3-geek from fi. Sunday, 8th July 2007, 13:39

I have now a set up with Pentium MMX 233/64MB RAM and ISA-SB16, but keyboard hangs up totally on newest version of AT2 and with previous version Ctrl-key hangs up after some time.

Could it be the MMX that messes up Adlibtracker? I never had a problem with my Athlon Thunderbird (which is now busted).

I also had to set opl_latency to 1 on each of my 4 OPL3-soundcards -with athlon only one of them required that!

nim, musician from Sweden. Wednesday, 4th July 2007, 18:08

about speech synth, I know OPM music has it not too seldomly... sounds very simple yes but quite cool :)
http://sound.jp/hex125/ <-he makes quite nice OPM FM (sharp x68k), check out songs with "FM Voice" :) ie: Cue (Yellow Magic Orchestra).

DaNyL, coder from Germany. Wednesday, 4th July 2007, 13:59

Has anybody tried the extended VBE-driver from http://www.geocities.com/bearwindows/vbemp.htm and VDMSound-OPL3 with Adlib Tracker yet?

@vintaque> I think speech synth can be as software-based synth too or just make samples from another speech synth and use them.

vintaque, another visitor from fin. Sunday, 1st July 2007, 10:23

Hey, if you're planning a new version, add speech synthesis into it!

I remember reading from OPL-something datasheet that it has speech synthesis.

I'm off to cabin by the lake:)

Malfunction: wonderful to hear! hopes for getting that tracker just overwrote my hopes for getting a girlfriend.

DaNyL, opl3-geek from Germany. Sunday, 1st July 2007, 0:44

@elan: then wait till the patterneditor 's done^^ phase-distortion for the masses. malfi already told me that an explanation of the synthesis technique is needed. so it will be added, too. ....and when FM-Beauty is shipping and some people start asking i might even port synder to the FM-B

elo, another visitor from Slovakia. Sunday, 1st July 2007, 0:07

@Danyl>I have Try D-Synth.It looks very nice.Something like this I miss on PC.Something like AHX.

elan, musician from Slovakia. Saturday, 30th June 2007, 23:57

@Danyl>Softsynths are good too :)./AHX,Dreamstation,AXStracker and VSTi/

I have one extra GTIA but I want to keep it for me - for future /for repair/.But I can ask friends./Maybe somebody will have broken board.../So I can try to find one for You/and send it to You/.
Quickest way will be - buy one 800xl /they are much cheaper than 130xe/ from e-bay or pc-secondhand shop in Your country.
But I will send You one when I will get (1-2 months) one extra - for sure.

PS:I similar problem but with strange lines.I had extra memory expansion. And one of my friend tell me this little trick.Take Alu-Cover from chocolate. And cover GTIA - shielding. But It was lines not color. So I think It will not work.

Back 2 OPL Theme:
@Malfunction>I am absolutly speechless.24FM+4DAC.LOL
What about -> Each soundchip will be machine like in Buzz or Psycle. And You set-up them with lines...

Malfunction, adlib-wizard from Polska. Saturday, 30th June 2007, 11:45

Elan: We are planning to use hardware 4 channel of 8-bit samples with 8-bit hardware volume (better than 6-bit Amiga's Paula) with 512KB or 1MB SRAM + OPL3 with wired IRQ internal timers + YM2612 with wired IRQ internal timers + double SID-like filter on top. All sound subsystems will be able to play at once - probably including 55,5KHz IRQ internal timer driven YM2612 PCM DAC. But that channel has no use from my point of view :) It decreases FM channels to 5, has no volume control and we have already 4 channels of great Amiga-like PCM (with possibility to tweak to use 16-bit samples - like 14-bit on Amiga :)
So - without Altera daughterboard FM-Beauty will play 4 channel 8-bit PCM (but with analog volumes - so with great dynamics), 18 channels of OPL3 and 6 channels of YM2612. Overal 24 channels of FM + 4 channels of samples - all with filter system on top.
When daughterboard will be released - you will have additional SID, POKEY, AY, SN764xx, SAA, DAVE etc. ADDITIONAL! :)
To be honest - PCM subsystem in YM2612 had one adventage- it exist :) No volume control, no pitch control and it eats one FM channel. Simply stereo settable 1 channel 8-bit COVOX - quite lame imho :) But of course it will be supported - even better in MD (we will connect IRQ pin :) - so it will be possible to set period of PCM update.
I'm planning that tracker will support ALL sounchips at once. ALL of them :) You will set soundchip per channel :) For example: 123456 = YM2612, 789 = AY, 10 11 12 = 2nd AY, 13 14 15 = SID, 16 17 18 19 = POKEY, etc
But for now we are making first hardware prototype :)

DaNyL, coder from Germany. Saturday, 30th June 2007, 11:43

@elan: i believe that the GTIA is faulty, too, but i have no spare. The Pokey was defective, but I had one spare pokey. I also tried S-Video/Monitor Out. The thing which hit me was, that I once had color, for a few minutes.
and i also believe that soft-synths with limitation can be interesting. After all, that's why i'm coding my synder ( http://dawork.synchronus.de/filez/drawosc.zip ). I'd love to get my hand on FM-Beauty and port it to the eZ80 in it. ^^

elan, musician from Slovakia. Saturday, 30th June 2007, 8:51

@Danyl>Is GTIA /videochip/ broken in that A130xe.Do you tryed monitor-out not only TV-out???

elan, another visitor from Slovakia. Saturday, 30th June 2007, 8:44

Yes port of ADT2 will be cool. But that YM2612 is amazing FM soundchip + PCM soundchip. So combination of OPL3+YM2612 will be Beautiful PCM channel can be used for drums ,percusion samples or special FX samples...So I am for ADT2 (ADT3-ADTriple :) ) tracker but with YM2612 feature.(I love VSTiīs but limitations like SID are good too...)I am in demoscene since 1993.Since that days.I started on PC.But I was active only on FastTracker2 :(...And in that times samples started to be standard. But I mean PC miss soundchip this days. You know DAC+Codec is no OPL,SAA1099,POKEY,AY,YM or whatever. And I think PC has RENOISE,XM,MP3,OGG...etc songs in compos on demoscene events. But no /only few/ real chipsongs.I think PC demoscene has forgotten and music industry of .->beauty<-. of realtime sound-synthesise.I love softsynths - there are no limitations for imagination and combinations.Yes I have supermodern modular trackers at home too /VSTi,ASIO/ but I miss hardware /soundchip/ limitations...That limitations are beautiful...You know what I mean.Specific sound.I miss that on PC./Look at NES,GB,C64,A800 scene and OPL-AT2 of course!!!/.FM-B is something what is really interesting for me.But same interesting I have for ADT2 too.And AWE64GOLD :)...I will have few but free time for Adlib tracker in summer so I hope You will hear some of my tunes and 8bit Atari Tunes too...And I will hear some new (some of ADT2 pack -included are really really superb tunes.)- Yours.

PS:That registred-upload feature on ADT2 site will be cool. Some kind of Adlib Music Label.Real FM chipmusic suport...And with FM-Beauty with USB will come new OPL-FM future I hope in demoscene and retrogames at least...You know "No FM-B No music in our production!!!".And AdlibTrackerTRIPLE I hope for new OS like (XP,Vista,Linux...) for modern hardware with nice GUI.

nim, musician from Sweden. Friday, 29th June 2007, 18:05

yes with the FMB the cool idea of a multi-format FM-tracker will no longer be just a crazy cool idea without real application :D high on my list of hopes for the future :) (just below a new P-MODEL rebirth)

DaNyL, coder from Germany. Friday, 29th June 2007, 13:12

@elan:
well. i have a AWE32 with 16mb ram; awe64 gold with 4 mb ram; terratec maestro 32/96 and some opl4 soundboard but no ISA-sockets anymore. (-_-)
I have one Atari 130XE here; but it only generates black/white video (pal).
Add to that 1 Atari STE 4MB; 1 Atari MegaSTE 4 MB; 1 Amiga 600 2+4MB +1GB Compactflash+ 1Amiga 1200 68030/50 2+32 MB; + 1 C64 (s-jiffydos rules!) + 2x OC 168 + 2x 1541 +1571 +1570.
So I atleast know the atari 16bit scene very well. MAXYMIZER RULES!!!
And as a Tracker: we have to hope for a ADT2 port.

Elan, musician from Slovakia. Friday, 29th June 2007, 10:31

@Dany>
Wow and now in win-version./Just downloaded/

Can I ask You?In future can be opl-tracker based on opl3emu? /Something like FamiTracker/
Opl3 tracker for Win-Masses...
It is possible way for future???
I know FM-B is future.
But for people who will not have FM-B...

@Malfi>
OPL3+YM2612

Can be in future dualcore-tracker??? /well for example melody speed 6 (opl3) and on same screen drums+bass speed 3 (ym2612).Simply intenpendent speed for each soundchip...And split-screen for OPL3 and YM/

I know It is just idea. And it will be long way for FMBTracker...But what about dual-tracker???

Elan, musician from Slovakia. Friday, 29th June 2007, 10:20

@DaNyL> Hey Dany ,man I have download it last week!!!I like SID tunes very much/I am in Atari scene but I have C64 demoscene-friends too...I had c128 and 2xc64 but I have sold them to friends.../.SID is SID it is really classic soundchip /Amazing bass/...!!!So donīt say that things like "i don't believe there is ):".Just buy AWE32ISA from PC secondhand /Still I am searching for GOLD one but I still have but luck for GOLD one.../.I go test some SID tunes :) /best kb-poem2ahorse.sid version.../.

Malfunction, adlib-wizard from Polska. Friday, 29th June 2007, 2:06

I'm interested - guess why ;)

DaNyL, coder from Germany. Thursday, 28th June 2007, 23:40

If there is someone in the world still interested in llsid (i don't believe there is): a proof-of-concept port of llsid for windows+jarek's opl3emu is available @ http://dawork.synchronus.de

Malfunction, adlib-wizard from Poland. Thursday, 28th June 2007, 16:47

It's Yamaha YMF724 PCI and successors. I have one too :)

Claud Fremin, opl3-geek from Canada. Thursday, 28th June 2007, 9:49

I noticed that you said this on your site:
"At the moment we're not sure if any PCI-cards with OPL3-chip exists."

They do. I own one, and it's a Yamaha PCI card. it contains an OPL3 chip on-board. I haven't seen another sound card like this in all my life, but it does work in Linux and Windows (FM Synth Midi sounds decent with it) and it would be great if it could be supported.
