Well, as you seem to have DOS, you should be able to type EDIT, which would bring up a crude text edtior. Find the .ini file for the tracker, and edit that.

Hello all,

I've been using AT2 on and off for a few years now. My Win 95 AT2 machine died, so I switched to a DOS Toshiba laptop, with a slower CPU (133mhz) Does anyone know how to edit the adtrack2.ini file inside DOS, so I can config it for slow cpu? I can't bounce the file to a windows machine because the floppy is messed up, so for now I can only work with files that are already on the machine. Thanks, AT2 is a great program.

The .PAS examples no longer build with FPC (2.4.0), and FPC 1.0.10 is officially dead / deleted / verboten. Any chance on updating them?

ok to answer my own question, it seems the YMF715E-S SA3 chip my laptop has prefers the OPL_Latency=1 setting.... working fine now

Hi there,

I got a laptop with a YMF715E OPL3 chip, yet the newer version of AT2 only outputs garbage when I play a module...

if I try with the old version, it detects the chip as OPL2 and then it works...

yet this chip is supposed to be an actual yamaha OPL3 chip... is this chip supposed to be compatible? do I need to tweak the config file somehow?

Thanks!

Analog: dunno :-( however, try with the older version (2.3.35) of the tracker, which is here:

thanks for your reply subz3ro. I've removed almost all programs from autoexec.bat and config.sys. For me isn't just ocassional, the program hangs in about one to five keypresses on note input. but the program is running just fine. the sample tunes work perfectly. what i'm doing wrong?.

subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Tuesday, 15th December 2009, 8:33

Analog: It's been reported from time to time, that such behavior occurs after some time of using tracker, but usually it was occasional. Don't you have any resident keyboard programs in the memory? (check autoexec.bat / config.sys)

Analog, musician from Chile. Tuesday, 15th December 2009, 5:03

hey, i love this tracker! i got a problem, using a toshiba portege 620 ct. (16 mb ram, dos 7.1). the main issue is that the tracker plays just fine, but when I input some notes with the keyboard, it gets stucked. but this only happens when i try to make an input from the keyboard.

can you help?

thanks in advance, i'll try the older version to see if it works.

bye

thesnake383: just a short reply to your questions.... I think it can be useful for somebody else, so I'll give you reply here, not to your email...

1) there is no special help for percussion instruments... the point with toggling the type from FM to percussion is to get suitable Instrument Editor GUI for them => you should experiment with percussion mode to get the results which fit your demand most
2) macro is advanced level of making FM - not really required for a real beginner :-)
3) you toggle 2OP/4OP channels in Song Variables (Ctrl+F -> 4-OP TRACK EXT.); if you select at least one 4OP channel, then in Instrument Editor you pair the 2 instrument that will sound in 4OP channel with Space key; more information on pairs (AM-AM, AM-FM, etc.) you can find in Help
4) there are following requirements for runtime of the tracker:
available DOS memory block (when program is loaded) - 120kb
available extended memory block (pmode) - 5MB+
In my opinion you have too less RAM onboard...

thesnake383, newbie from America. Sunday, 18th October 2009, 23:26

Newbie to Adtracker here.

I'm trying to create percussion sounds using the Shift + M B S T H keys, but to no avail. Help!

Also is the macro editor important for programming sounds? If so, how is it used?

Is there a way to switch between 2op and 4op sounds in the instrument editor?

I'm also trying to get Adtracker working on my old Windows 95 computer, but I get Error(1) Insufficient memory messages! (I sent subzero an email yesterday) Help!

Hey PDF Format ->
I think best will be buy old PC 400-600MHz with ISA motherboard and buy AWE32 or SB16 and run there MS-Dos.
Well when you will prefer travelling there is lot of cheap notebooks out there.
Some has only codecs. Few (mainly from Japan) real OPL3.
But still good for tracking...
Or use Danyl´s dosbox ADT2 distribution on modern notebook.

Sweet...now I just need a few weeks worth of finding and reading the relevant tutorials...

uh oh.. PDF FORMAT and FM?!?!??! look out now!!

Doomguy, newbie from USA. Saturday, 13th June 2009, 1:05

in case anyones interested: i have a Compaq Presario 2285V that has an ES1869 onboard audio codec, (ESS AudioDrive) i can confirm it has an FM synth and that it works with Adlib Tracker II. you might need some DOS drivers to enable the thing though. Happy Trackin' ^_^

Note!: What screen resolutions would you like?? I tried more of them when I started to work on the UI, and the 90x30 was fitting most when speaking of space VS readability ;)

Note!, newbie from Japan. Thursday, 11th June 2009, 6:38

I find myself loving AT2 more and more every time I use it. If there is a new release, what are the possibilities of a wider range of screen resolutions?

subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Monday, 8th June 2009, 13:43

PDF Format: I already wrote you on email... this is probably DosBox issue, I don't suppose you've managed to run AT2 (DOS program) in 64bit Windows system :-)

PDF Format, opl3-geek from Canada. Monday, 8th June 2009, 1:51

Any chance of a 64-bit version of this? AT2 currently won't run under 64-bit windows.

Note!, newbie from Japan. Friday, 29th May 2009, 2:17

Hey errbody. Just about to nab a Toshiba Libretto 50 when I noticed it doesn't actually have a SoundBlaster card but rather a Yamaha OPL3 SA2 chip. Is that still all good? And is 75mhz processor enough to get the job done? Cheers.

4 op FM instruments are giving me the willies, but i have a couple nice ones now...

saskrotch!!!! tenfold!!!!! welcome to FM COUNTRY !!!! woo ha!

saskrotch, newbie from US. Wednesday, 13th May 2009, 23:18

okay so i'm trying to find the right computer on ebay to run adlib tracker along with some other stuff, basically i'm having trouble finding a laptop with an actual soundblaster card, but they all seem to just have "soundblaster compatible" soundcards (ie: ESS Maestro 2)

will these work with adlib, or would i have to also get a soundblaster card and replace what they come with?

danyl, opl3-geek from germany. Monday, 4th May 2009, 14:25

@subz3ro: there is a half-automatic converter from adplug captured raw files to xm @ http://grompe.org.ru/

tenfold, newbie from US. Thursday, 16th April 2009, 12:50

I'm currently looking for an old laptop to start composing with atII on. I've come across many older ones that say "fm synthesis support" or "sound blaster pro" support. My question is, do these computers have an FM chip, or would using one of them be an emulation as well?

Thanks for the help,

tenfold

oxygenstar, opl3-geek from USA. Tuesday, 14th April 2009, 10:33

ok cool.. good to know, subz3ro! I cant get any of these midi devices i have to work with dos anyways.. heh

nooly, musician from CZ. Friday, 10th April 2009, 10:40

subz3ro hehe if danyl succeeds, then somebody should make OPL3 based little synth (how's "adlib beauty" going, does anybody know?) and i could live forever with that =)

subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Tuesday, 31st March 2009, 13:56

oxyngenstar: I feel for you :) I planned to add support for MIDI at the time the tracker was yet intensive developed, but never really realized that plan (missing equipment, motivation / feedback from public, etc.) Bad luck, I don't have time to work on the code that much anymore...... BUT..... there is (even though it's still small) light in the dark, and that's Danyl with his enthusiasm, who is trying to port whole code to Win32, to make it more compatible with PC equipments nowadays. Hopefully, when he will succeed with that task, he will add support for MIDI as well :)

oxygenstar, opl3-geek from USA. Saturday, 28th March 2009, 4:40

subz3ro, I would love you even more if this had midi support! ( sync and/or midi out, not so much midi in) :)

subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Saturday, 14th March 2009, 9:37

oerg866: nope, there is no such conversion tool..... no export to MOD... even though there would be, you should have sample all FM instruments into WAVE and that's damn work, man! :)

oerg866, another visitor from germany. Friday, 13th March 2009, 21:45

or any other adlib tracker module

oerg866, listener from germany. Friday, 13th March 2009, 21:38

Any way to export an adlibtracker II song to MOD/XM/S3M/IT or any OpenMPT-usable module format?

greetings

For all those who encounter some problems running AdT2 in DosBox, here are my settings in dosbox.conf file which work just great... speaking of both sound quality and performance ;)

[cpu]
# core -- CPU Core used in emulation: normal,simple,dynamic,auto.
# auto switches from normal to dynamic if appropriate.
# cycles -- Amount of instructions DOSBox tries to emulate each millisecond.
# Setting this value too high results in sound dropouts and lags.
# You can also let DOSBox guess the correct value by setting it to max.
# The default setting (auto) switches to max if appropriate.
# cycleup -- Amount of cycles to increase/decrease with keycombo.
# cycledown Setting it lower than 100 will be a percentage.

core=dynamic
cycles=30000
cycleup=500
cycledown=20

[mixer]
# nosound -- Enable silent mode, sound is still emulated though.
# rate -- Mixer sample rate, setting any devices higher than this will
# probably lower their sound quality.
# blocksize -- Mixer block size, larger blocks might help sound stuttering
# but sound will also be more lagged.
# prebuffer -- How many milliseconds of data to keep on top of the blocksize.

nosound=false
rate=50000
blocksize=2048
prebuffer=10

[sblaster]
# sbtype -- Type of sblaster to emulate:none,sb1,sb2,sbpro1,sbpro2,sb16.
# sbbase,irq,dma,hdma -- The IO/IRQ/DMA/High DMA address of the soundblaster.
# mixer -- Allow the soundblaster mixer to modify the DOSBox mixer.
# oplmode -- Type of OPL emulation: auto,cms,opl2,dualopl2,opl3.
# On auto the mode is determined by sblaster type.
# All OPL modes are 'Adlib', except for CMS.
# oplrate -- Sample rate of OPL music emulation.

sbtype=sb16
sbbase=220
irq=7
dma=1
hdma=5
mixer=true
oplmode=auto
oplrate=50000

Brendan: I think Encore told me he has found him on some forum on internet... try to ask him :)
TFX: well then, it can be it's running slowly... try to lower the realtime cosmetics as much as possible (higher "cpu_saving" value in config file)

TFX, another visitor from Poland. Sunday, 8th March 2009, 11:40

I sold my oldschool laptop and now I have problem. ATII runs to slow on PC AMD 1.5GHz 1GB RAM WINXP. Damn it! What I need to do? Help... do I need 3GHz PC? :(

Brendan Bailey, musician from USA. Wednesday, 4th March 2009, 3:18

So, where is Ben Gerardin? He seems like such a talented composer, but I can't find anything on the internet about him. I love his music and would love to hear what he's written since the FM tracks he wrote.

RayeR, another visitor from Czech Rep.. Sunday, 22nd February 2009, 3:47

Zdar,
I foud Adlib tracker by chance from announcement of other user Laaca on BTTR DOS forum. Nice tracker with great tunes collection. I like FM synth :) And it works on my new machine with SB live which use crippled SB emulation but adlib can play well. Hails to all that still codes 4 DOS!

ps. mozna sme se nekde videli na Fiasko 2000 :)

Asterion: thanks man! hope to hear some good FM-music from you soon ;)

Asterion, newbie from Canada. Thursday, 22nd January 2009, 18:57

This program is awesome! I've used a lot of music software over the years, but nothing like this. Last night, as I was learning how to use it (thanks for the tutorial, Oxygenstar!), at one point I just stopped what I was doing and realized: This is so much fun! Nice work.

subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Monday, 19th January 2009, 14:52

Tinctu: speak english, "trdlo" :) we'll manage something in february, I guess... ;)
Brendan: yes, there can be slight or more significant difference between the real OPL3 output and the OPL3 emulation... the emulation engine has some (already known) bugs, which will be (hope so) improved in the future...

Brendan Bailey, musician from USA. Friday, 16th January 2009, 23:48

Hi all, just wanted to check in and say hi. I don't use AT2 anymore, but certainly cherish the music I made on it back in 2004/05. I downloaded the winamp plugin and found that my songs sound a little different than they do when played in adlib tracker, but some of the other modules sound exactly the same. Just why there is a discrepancy. Thanks, and happy tracking!

oxygenstar, opl3-geek from USA. Wednesday, 14th January 2009, 15:35

thank you much man!! i have been looking in the config file forever and just couldnt find it!

subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Wednesday, 14th January 2009, 14:50

oxygenstar: well, there is screensaver option in the config file... just change it to "ssaver_time=0" and you will disable the screensaver ;)

oxygenstar, opl3-geek from USA. Wednesday, 14th January 2009, 10:07

yes yes ! as you know I have just joined soundshock...! but I had a question, is there a way to disable the screensaver for AT2? (to prevent it from the screen dimming after 5 mins) I thought it had to do with my computer, or version of DOS, but it only does that in AT2... -carl

subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Thursday, 8th January 2009, 8:05

oxygenstar: welcome! I was curious if/when you show out... :) saw your AdT2 videos on youtube, really nice ;) please welcome also www.soundshock.se for more FM discussion (whole worl'ds FM elite is forming there)
