Malfunction wow, sounds great :) and yeah, VSTi controllable option would be great, it's everything you need to controll the interface in nowadays home studio...

New version (rev.38) is available in download section. Some speed-ups for DOSBox, some cosmetics, and of course fixed the bug with program crash reported by madbrain some time ago ;)

An external case (with external power supply) with audio OUT, USB, DB25 parallel connector to interface with older computers (including 8-bit ones ;), 2xDB9 connectors to plug digital joysticks/mouse/pad (for example SMD pads ;). We will try to make it VSTi controllable, native and MIDI controllable.
nula, musician from CR. Sunday, 10th June 2007, 9:40
malf yep that sounds wonderful :) so what will be the concept of that beauty? something like a HW synth with audio OUT and MIDI IO, i guess?
subz3ro hi man! have you got my email?

Additional we will try to add SID-like digitally-controlled analog filter. With separated outputs from OPL3 (A=left,B=right,C=mono filter,D=who knows?;> ) one can select channels which pass through filter circuit. It should unleash hell :D
Malfunction, adlib-wizard from Poland. Saturday, 9th June 2007, 22:21
I have genuine YMF262-M Yamaha OPL3 chips :) The only trick is to get YAC512 floating-point DACs, but it's very simple to adopt onboard Zilog Acclaim! CPU to make conversion if it will be impossible to get those Yamaha DACs. Plus is that it will be possible to digital capture all OPL3 output ;) We will try our best :D
P.S. And it will be possible to play with YM2612 ;)

Malfi: Hehe, yeah.. funny said.. but it will be also some kind of resurrection for FM music in my opinion, because I see many people all over the world are still "into" this specific kind of how the sound can be :) I only hope that you assemble all good and the result will be as much identical to ISA OPL3 stuff as possible.. because as you probably know, the difference of what you can hear from different sound cards declared to be using OPL3 chip quite varies.. from absolute crap (ESS cards) to a pure crystal sound with SB AWE64 internal EMU8008 solution with integrated OPL3 interface and functionality. For me, this Creative's "crime" is the best they did so long till arrival of AWE64 if we are speaking about FM synthesis.. the whole wave-table thing and it's 64-voice polyphony (haha) was kinda marketing frustration for every AWE64 owner (not even speaking about the special memory modules used for soundfont banking... costing you a bank and even hard to get). Just so much wanted to say :) Hopefully the USB card will be great and FM sound even better than the AWE64 thingy :)

What emulation?! :) We are making HARDWARE USB synth with real OPL3 + analog filters + YM2612 socket :) Forget about emulation! Right now I have over 110 pieces of brand new OPL3 chips on my table :)
nula, musician from CR. Wednesday, 6th June 2007, 13:07
wow, a win32 port? sounds reeeeeeeeally interesting :) anyway, how would you make it play? no OPLx on nowaday's sound devices, so emulation is the option?

Hi
Does anyone know what's the right setting for "adlib_port" in adtrack2.ini when using Toshiba Tecra 520?
It has built-in OPL3-SA3 wich works nicely with Adlib Tracker II 2.0.27
Is there an easy way finding it out? BIOS doesn't have settings for OPL...:(
thanks

elan> looks interesting.. I'm only affraid about compatibility with AdT2 resp. other programs using an ISA device.. you know, that the DOS support of NTVDM under Win32 is pretty weak.. and unless this device can be used in pure DOS, we will be restricted by the NTVDM support (resp. no support :) for other stuff like LFB for VESA etc.

Well YMf262-M is good /opl3/ M /non square sized design/ is same as S /square sized chip/ but it is only design of chips - architecture is compatible I think.
I am not 100% sure about that.
Look at OPL3 /ymf262/ datasheet http://www.datasheetarchive.com/datasheet.php?article=3598861

Yes Ikuma in old Satellite ,some Tecras and Libretto and other old notebooks are original OPL-3.
I think Toshiba is really good choice : ) I have it too...

hey hey. i finally resurrected my brother's old laptop from 1998, a Toshiba Satellite just so I could use Adlib Tracker II and guess what? It even has a Yamaha OPL3-SA3 chip inside it! (which i didn't know until yesterday).
ADLIB TRACKER II is da bomb!

Hello,
I'm trying to determine which model SoundBlaster ISA has the Yamaha OPL-3 chip and compatible with my Compaq Portable II. I've asked ebay sellers, and most don't know what I'm talking about. One says a CT1740 has a YMF262-M - don't know about the -M though.
Also, will any card work with Compaq Personal Computer DOS Version 3.31 and are drivers available?
Thanks in advance for your help!

bullis1> hmm, maybe you're out of CPU resources because of plenty macros used in the tune.. have you already tried to set the "cpu_saving" option in config file? what is your PC that you run AT2 on, btw?
bullis1, musician from Canada. Friday, 25th May 2007, 17:11
@MadBrain:
That's the first song I've ever played in AT2 that didn't work right. It just sounded really sparse and got choppy about 20 seconds in. So I tried to quit the program and it scrolled of screen really funny. I'm not complaining but bravo for being the first person to tax my computer with an Adlib chiptune :) It's probably my weird soundcard's fault though, I use an IBM MWave card. It's 100% SBPRO compatible, but sometimes I have my doubts.
Anyway, I haven't posted here before, but I'd also like to say that I'm a long-time fan of AT2 and a very very long-time fan of OPL2 and 3 music and synthesis. Keep up the good work everyone!

madbrain> good work, pal! really nice 4-op and fm-macro usage ;-)
elan> as the AdT2 for Windows.. I really don't have enough time to make that port from DOS to Win32.. if anybody feels experienced enough to do so, I can distribute full sourcecode of the tracker (it's 53.000+ uncommented lines, but the source is pretty clear imho :) so the development can continue further on.. I already asked DaNyL if he dares to do so, but he seems to have not enough time too, so somebody of you people must decide.. :)

Made a rather extensive track in Adlib Tracker II - in Big band imiation style:
http://battleofthebits.org/depository.php?act=view&track=1033
It basically shows off the awesome 4 operator mode of the opl3, and the best patches I could come up with, including a couple hard to do instruments like timpani.
You should probably check it out. (and seriously try out the 4 operator mode, it owns!)
elan, musician from slovakia. Saturday, 5th May 2007, 0:24
I think daughter-board /upgrade/ will be better.Different modules...In tracker as soft-patch /instrument editor/ and on soundcard as daughter-board...
One universal tracker for composing and hardware-software modules / patches...
It is just my own opinion.

Malfunction, adlib-wizard from PoIand. Monday, 30th April 2007, 22:34
I'd like to update status of our hardware project :)
We are on the move with making prototype CPU-board. We were unable to get OPL4 chips, but we have planty of OPL3 synths (over 100 pieces) - so this will be standard chip :) In standard it will be YM2612 socket, so if filled - it will be OPL3+YM2612 combo. I think we will be able to fill some of those sockets for the first users ;)
Besides - we are working on SID-compatible filter to post process OPL3 - selective per channel by secondary DAC :)
Besides of that we are dunno if we should add Altera FPGA for emulate digital parts of AY,POKEY,TI,SAA,SID, Multi-DAC at once (it means longer developement) or rather as a daughter-board - later?
Cheers :D

Moogle: of course it stopped years ago; but still they provided binaries which were even older than a few years. The source was developed further, but no binaries provided.
Regarding DB: I got no trouble using dosbox 0.70. Edit your adt2 config to set the compatible text-mode and use a blank dosbox config
Moogle, listener from The Bush Empire. Saturday, 14th April 2007, 22:48
Pardon my ignorance, but didn't VDMsound development stop *years* ago?
And am I the only one having trouible getting the tracker to run at all in the latest DOSBOX build? In .65, it would at least show up, but not respond to the keyboard. Now nothing shows.
