Cool! Ill try sampling some patterns out of adlib and loading them into another program with the BPM set to match that of the sampled adlib patterns based on your formula. Thanks for the information :)
subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Tuesday, 11th June 2013, 13:27
@Mister Sombrero: BPM (theoretical) = TEMPO * 60 / SPEED
But as far as I know, the BPM-way of measuring song tempo is based upon drum beats in it, while in AT2 tempo gives you processing frequency of pattern data and speed its slowndown factor ;)
Mister Sombrero, musician from Mexico. Sunday, 9th June 2013, 8:53
@ subz3ro..thankyou, sounds really nice even without the real opl soundcard.
do you have a way to convert AT2 speed/tempo to BPM?
subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Tuesday, 4th June 2013, 14:02
@Mister Sombrero: fullscreen is so far not supported in the SDL version, only windowed mode
Mister Sombrero, musician from Mexico. Monday, 3rd June 2013, 23:58
How do you go fullscreen on the SDL port?

@ Daniel: Wow... :-)
Hah, so now... I need to re-discover mem addresses in my ES1938S and CS4280...
How about porting a player to AVR/STM32 using old ISA card like Mozart... :>

Daniel, musician from UK. Friday, 4th January 2013, 23:13
Also, it would be very useful if the info that these cards can work was added to the FAQ. :) It took me quite a while to find confirmation, as I knew that the YFM could emulate ISA-based cards like the AWE64, but it didn't mention compatibility with ALT in the FAQ.
Cheers!

Sebas9k:
“PCI cards based on FM801 chip also works without emulation, but only under Win9x/DOS.”
Apparently it can be made to work on XP using a few workarounds, including a port-mapping as you mentioned for the YMF7: http://dev.kewl.org/fm801/Doc/

Btw, here's my sound card picture (ugly quality)

Easy to grab/buy. And it has SB-link...
Windows XP detected this beast as "Yamaha Native/Legacy DS1 WDM" on these drivers:

Oh, thanks, subz3ro! That's great. I was wondering if I was missing something simple like that, but I couldn't find anything in the manual about it or online. That helps a lot. :)
subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Monday, 15th October 2012, 11:59
@icelizarrd: Ahh okay, I think I see your problem. The sound of an instrument is sometimes not exactly the same, even though you do the correct "restart" of ADSR envelope. This is because when you do next note triggers in the same channel, the tracker does not always stop the previous sound (this is not a bug but a prevention for smooth playback - otherwise you would here clicks and pops during playback for some instruments). In case you want your instrument to sound like on first note trigger, you can use ZF0 command and release sustaining sound in the channel.
@Sebas9k: That's very useful information! Thank you very much :)
icelizarrd, musician from US. Sunday, 14th October 2012, 20:08
@subz3r0 Thanks for the reply, sorry it took me so long to respond. Yeah, it seems to be just one instrument. Here's an a2m that should demonstrate the problem (or at least it does for me).

Just to supplement the FAQ about Adlib Tracker II and sound card restrictions to the public.
I am listening without any emulation my favourite tunes on quite modern machine, which has no ISA slots.
Yamaha PCI soundcard based on YMF724 processor has OPL3 chip & It's possible to get it to work under Windows XP ;-) A small workaround, like userport driver is needed to access 388h-38Bh (due to the OS restrictions)
PCI cards based on FM801 chip also works without emulation, but only under Win9x/DOS.
subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Thursday, 11th October 2012, 10:17
@icelizarrd: Hmm, sounds really weird. Is this happening for some specific instrument only? If so, can you put the a2i file (or whole a2m module incl. pattern data) somewhere on storage, so we can have a look?
icelizarrd, musician from USA. Monday, 8th October 2012, 20:39
Hey, I just started using AT2, but I'm having some trouble with an instrument that doesn't seem to be "resetting" or "retriggering" its envelope. The first time a note for that instrument is encountered during playback, it works just like it should; but every time afterward, even when it loops back to the beginning again, it seems like the attack portion has been removed or modified. The only way to get the original attack to come back is to stop playback and restart it. This happens even when using "Key off" before reaching the next note. Anyone know of anything that might be causing that?

SDL port is something I've been waiting for quite a long time :]
subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Monday, 10th September 2012, 11:17
In fact, apart from real hardware, the best way is new SDL Win32 version from Dmitry Smagin, which is still in Beta phase, so you must expect some minor issues and restrictions with it ;)
Spaces, listener from EU. Saturday, 8th September 2012, 6:43
Windows was never really good at providing access to bare hardware. Not even in 3.0 and earlier. Just use the DOSBox preconfigured version. It's the best thing if you don't have access to actual hardware.

I'm using Virtual PC 2007 and running Windows for Workgroups 3.11. A problem has been that the Ad Lib driver supplied by microsoft does not work "out of the box" without some severe tweaking. I find that the driver for Soundblaster 1.5 Ad Lib FM Synthesizer under WFW 3.11 is not really any good. I have been able to get it to play a MIDI file once, then it thinks the driver is not installed, even though it is actually in the system. I have become frustrated with the microsoft driver for Ad Lib and wondered if there is another Ad Lib driver for 16-bit Windows 3.11 that will work better.
subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Monday, 3rd September 2012, 14:41
@Newk: From screenshots it looks kinda messy to me, that may be a problem for noobs and beginners in OPL3, however it appears more like sound machine than a (pattern-oriented) tracker, so it won't be probably able to do all that effect and especially macro stuff of AdT2. Anyway, it's nice there are still new FM synthesis projects in this age ;)
Newk, musician from Netherlands. Thursday, 30th August 2012, 14:05
hi guys! just found this:
http://fm801.kewl.org/app/about/
what do you think about this? would it be able to tweak as much on the sounds via midi as is possible
with AdT2?
one intresting thing also is that there is a tool featured called GiveIO that allows you to use the real
hardware it on winXP, would it work with AdT2 too?
Or does the the win32 port by Dmitry dont need such a tool anymore?
i would like to use both AdT2 and FreqMonster801 on an XP machine if possible

I have to add the following: A Vibra 16XV (CT4170/WavEffects) which doesn't even have a real OPL3 chip works fine!!
Quantum, opl3-geek from Belgium. Wednesday, 8th August 2012, 15:43
I have a Vibra 16S sound card. The OPL3-chip is the YMF289B.
I got horribly distorted sound with this card. Other software seems to work (i.e. the PLAY.EXE utility from Creative).
Anyone else with this problem?

Yes, that's what riser card should be like. It's something like slot replicator.
Stojke, newbie from Serbia. Friday, 27th July 2012, 16:02
Is riser card a removable bay that i insert other cards into?
subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Monday, 16th July 2012, 13:20
@Stojke: Never heard of such problems with ISA sound card, however, it may be some kind of disruption with the Optiplex GX1 Riser Card, which you are probably using in your DELL computer, don't you?
Stojke, newbie from Serbia. Thursday, 14th June 2012, 12:24
Additional info
I have removed the windows on the Samsung drive and installed MS DOS 7.1
The horrible noise is present on it too, so it probably isn't a hard drive issue.
Here are computer specifications if that helps with anything:
Dell OptiPlex GX1
700MHz PIII
512MB SD RAM
Ati Rage Onboard 8MB
Stojke, newbie from Serbia. Wednesday, 13th June 2012, 0:06
Hello, I am having problems, Adlib tracker 2 out puts horrible disorted noise on any other hard drive i try! It only works on a small 3GB hard drive.
I am using Sound Blaster 16 (ct2230) and it works perfectly on the Samsung 3GB drive, but on any other its malfunctioning. Here are examples:
Should sound like: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/54462712/nonoise.wma
Sounds like: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/54462712/noised.wma (warning, loud noise)
Can any one help me who experienced this?

Hi all!
Our community member Dmitry Smagin from Russia has started porting AdT2 to Win32 with support of SDL.
Working Beta version (with only a few limitations and issues) is present in the download section of AT2 Google code page (http://at2.googlecode.com/files/at2-2.4.00-SDL-win32-beta_05202012.zip)
Thank you and keep up the good work, Dmitry! :)

subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Tuesday, 3rd April 2012, 9:26
@Freefall: I didn't think (not a second) of you as a stealer :) Just tried to guess what's your aim :) Nevertheless, as stated, currently there is no export to external module format. Tracker is already open source, so maybe somebody implements it in the future. Till then I'm affraid you'll have to find another way ;) -sub-
Freefall, musician from Germany. Monday, 2nd April 2012, 17:27
@subz3ro: No, I like the Streets of rage remake by Louis Gorenfeld and would like to use the track in my chiptune collection. I´ve coded it with a static ufmod lib, so that no external files are needed. So, I must convert all my trackers to .xm Fast Tracker module format. :D Although the 97 trackers in my actual collection player were mostly not made by me, don´t think of me as a pattern/note stealer, that´s really not my style. I made several Farbrausch V2 Module (*.v2m) and some chiptunes, too. If you like to listen ... :) I often mix my ambitions: making music and coding. Made some sfx, too. Greetz, Freefall - Team REPT
subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Monday, 2nd April 2012, 10:59
@Freefall: AdT2 doesn't support export to any other than (native) A2M/AT2 module format. It was not supposed to be used as converter for FT2/ST3 or other tracker, rather as OPL tracker :) I'm just curious, so I ask - you are trying to steal the note (pattern) part from a RAD file for sample processing in ST3, or you want to further FM edit it? In latter case, I dare to recommend you to stay within AdT2, as it has a bit larger FM capabilities than Scream Tracker ;)
Freefall, newbie from Germany. Saturday, 31st March 2012, 18:15
Hey guys I need you help please. I loaded a .rad file into adlib tracker II and now want to export it as .s3m Scream tracker format. How can I change the extension? I´m using DosBox to emulate the tracker. Any help would be fine though.
Greetz, Freefall
Stojke, newbie from Serbia. Friday, 16th March 2012, 13:17
@ Newk
Thats a integrated sound chip (Usually), the sound it produces is low quality, thats why it is low cost. You can emulate OPL with DOS BOX, but it wont sound the same as the original chip any way, even with a greater card.
But it should work fine.
Newk, musician from Netherlands. Tuesday, 13th March 2012, 22:29
anyone tried to run it on a CMI-8738/PCI-SX card?
it might not be a real OPL integration so if it works, does it sound really that terrible?
subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Friday, 9th March 2012, 8:22
@Stojke: Thanks for nice feedback! Have fun :o)
Stojke, newbie from Serbia. Tuesday, 6th March 2012, 12:27
Tanks Subz3ro. Ive watched it already and did some practice. The tracker is awesome :)
I have got my self a Sound blaster CT2230 and CT1600 so it will sound as good as it can (i use SB PRO 3).
Ive tried many ISA cards, terratec, vibra, awe64, but PRO 3 is best and outputs with out noise.
I like OPL sound, and your tracker is really cool. Thank you for making it.
subz3ro, coder from Slovakia. Friday, 2nd March 2012, 11:08
@Stojke: there is no such tutorial so far... check Youtube for a short video made by Oxygenstar, which shows some really basic intro... however, I tried to make the tracker as much intuitive as possible, so hopefully if you have some tracking experience from other (pattern-oriented) tracker, I think you should get into it pretty quickly ;)
@Theta_Frost: I think best would be if you join the AT2 GoogleCode community and raise an issue there ;)

@HS: I downloaded the AXS demo for DOS from Maz soundtools-page and it won't run unless I disable audio, complaining on the lack of 16 bit soundcard (which is probably more a software than a hardware problem imho). I tried some tricks but nothing worked. The free Windows-version worked nicely on the laptop though.
encore, adlib-wizard from Sweden. Saturday, 21st January 2012, 13:28
@ijsf: Nice to read about the MIDI-support and the googleproject. :) Will update the links here. I also mainly work with Renoise (everything at http://soundcloud.com/platimatic) but I would probably have a hard time making the fm-sounds fit within my music (and I've gone through a couple of Yamaha FM-synths over the years). :)
@HS: Sure, if you can provide with me a link to the DOS-version (all I could find online was the win-version), I'll give it a shot.
@marm: I would keep the 'LCD Display stretch' on and instead play with screen_mode (and perhaps comp_text_mode) in the adtrack2.ini-file. See what works for ya. :)
HS, musician from USA. Wednesday, 18th January 2012, 0:42
@ encore -> regarding your computer, can you try and run AXS for DOS and see if it runs? If so, I'm going to hunt down this computer of yours.
